What we collect
Short version: no tracking, no analytics, no advertising, and no cookies unless you use the feedback form. This page explains the rest plainly.

No tracking, and no tracking cookies
We do not use analytics, advertising, social media pixels, or any other tracking. Nothing on this site profiles you, follows you to other sites, or builds a record of what you looked at.
Every page here loads only from this website. There are no third-party scripts, no content delivery networks, and no embedded widgets. Even the typeface is served from our own server rather than a font service, so no outside company is told that you visited.
The map, the project page, and this page set no cookies at all. The one exception is the feedback form, which sets a single session cookie while you have the form open. It exists only to check that the message came from the form on this site and not from a bot, it holds no information about you, and it expires when you close your browser. It is not used for tracking.
The names on the bricks
Each brick was decorated by a member of the community, and the name written on it is stored so that visitors can find their brick on the map. Participants were told their name would be searchable here.
The names are not published as a list. The map itself only knows which bricks are filled, not who filled them. A name is looked up one at a time, when you search for it or tap a single brick, and there is no page or file on this site that will hand over the whole roster. We also limit how many lookups can come from one place in a short period, so the list cannot quietly be collected in bulk.
What we hold for each brick is the name written on it and its position on the wall. Nothing else. No addresses, no phone numbers, no birthdays, no photographs.
If you would rather your name was not here, we will take it off. Ask through the feedback form and we will remove it, no explanation needed. The same goes for correcting a spelling or a placement.
The feedback form
If you send us a message, the form asks for your name and email address, both optional, and what you would like us to know. That message is emailed to the project. It is not stored in our database or added to any mailing list, and it is never sold or shared.
The email also records the internet address the message was sent from, along with the date and time. That is there to help us deal with spam and abuse. If you give an email address we will use it to reply to you, and for nothing else.
Server logs
Like nearly every website, our web host keeps routine server logs of requests: an internet address, a date and time, and which page was asked for. These are ordinary hosting records used to keep the site running and to investigate problems or abuse. We do not use them to build a picture of individual visitors.
When you search for a name, your search is sent in a way that keeps it out of those logs, so the names people type here are not written down.
Our lookup limit counts requests using a scrambled, one-way version of the internet address rather than the address itself, so that counting cannot be turned back into a list of who visited.
Children
Some of the bricks were decorated by children, and a child's first name may appear on the wall exactly as it does on the quilt. We collect nothing else from or about children, and this site has no accounts, no messaging, and no profiles. A parent or guardian can have a name removed at any time through the feedback form.
Links to other sites
Some pages link out to other organizations. Once you follow a link you are on someone else's website, under their privacy practices, not ours. We have no control over what they collect.
Questions, or a request
To ask a question about privacy, to have a name removed or corrected, or to ask what we hold about you, use the feedback form. A person reads every message.
If we ever change how this site handles information, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
